Pdesign (design load on the EU label)

Pdesign is the design heating or cooling load stated on the EU energy label, for which the manufacturer calculates seasonal efficiency.

Pdesign (Pdesignh for heating, Pdesignc for cooling) is a load in kilowatts for which SCOP, SEER and the energy class are determined under the EU ecodesign rules. For heating it is usually stated for the average (reference) climate, whose design temperature is −10 °C.

What this means in practice:

  • Pdesign is not the maximum output of the unit and does not equal your home’s heat loss on the coldest Lithuanian days;
  • it is a convenient figure for comparing units within the same labelling system;
  • the design outdoor temperature in Lithuania is lower – our tool assumes about −20…−23 °C depending on the city – so output at low temperature must be checked against manufacturer data.

Where a model’s data includes Pdesign, our catalogue and calculators show it separately from nominal capacity. Our engineer confirms the final suitability for your home after assessing heat loss and the manufacturer’s capacity tables.
