Heat recovery ventilator
A heat recovery ventilator supplies fresh air and extracts stale air while transferring part of the heat from the outgoing air to the incoming air.
A heat recovery ventilator is a mechanical ventilation unit with heat recovery. Two airflows pass through a heat exchanger without mixing: warm extract air preheats the cold incoming outdoor air.
- It provides a constant supply of fresh air without open windows – less CO₂, moisture and odours.
- Filters capture some dust and pollen.
- In airtight, well-insulated homes ventilation is essential, and heat recovery reduces the heat needed for ventilation.
- There are central units (with ducts for the whole home) and local (decentralised) units.
The unit is sized by the required airflow, not by floor area “by eye”. It is also important to plan duct routes, noise attenuation and access for filter changes. Mitsubishi Electric Lossnay units are available for both apartments and houses. Start with our ventilation planner – it gives a preliminary airflow, and a specialist confirms the solution.
Duct routes are best planned at the start of construction or renovation.
