Hydrobox (hydraulic module)
A hydrobox is the indoor unit of an air-to-water heat pump where heat is transferred from the refrigerant to the heating water, housing the controller, pump and safety components.
The hydrobox (Hydrobox in Mitsubishi Electric terminology) is the “heart” of an air-to-water heat pump inside the house. It contains a plate heat exchanger, a circulation pump, an expansion vessel (depending on the model), safety valves, often a backup electric heater and the system controller.
There are two main solutions:
- Hydrobox with a separate cylinder – a flexible option when you want to choose the hot water cylinder separately or place it elsewhere.
- All-in-one module – hydrobox and hot water cylinder in one casing; takes up less space and installs faster.
When choosing, consider the space in the plant room, service clearances, whether cooling is needed, how many heating circuits (zones) will be controlled and whether an additional heat source will be used.
Our engineers select a Mitsubishi Electric Ecodan hydrobox to suit your heating system and hot water demand, and our team carries out installation and commissioning.
