COP
COP is the coefficient of performance at specific test conditions: the ratio of heat output to electrical power input.
COP (Coefficient of Performance) shows how many times the heat output of a heat pump exceeds its electrical power input at a given moment and under given conditions. For air-to-water units COP is often stated at +7 °C outdoors and 35 °C flow temperature.
It is important to understand that COP changes: it falls as the outdoor temperature drops and the flow temperature rises. A single COP figure is therefore not enough to compare units.
- Always check the conditions at which COP is stated (outdoor and water temperature).
- For annual consumption the seasonal SCOP figure is more suitable.
- A low-temperature heating system (e.g. underfloor heating) lets the heat pump work at a higher COP.
- On the coldest days, what matters is not only COP but also whether the unit’s output is sufficient without the backup electric heater.
Our engineers check the Mitsubishi Electric manufacturer tables and assess what efficiency the unit will have at your heating system temperatures and on the coldest days.
