Ventilation balancing
Ventilation balancing is adjusting the airflow at each diffuser so that every room receives and exhausts the designed amount of air.
An installed ventilation system is not finished until it is balanced. Air always follows the path of least resistance, so without adjustment the rooms closest to the unit get too much air and the furthest ones too little.
During balancing a specialist uses a measuring instrument to measure the airflow at each diffuser or grille, adjusts them to the design and sets the unit’s fan speeds. The total supply and extract airflows are also matched.
- An unbalanced system can be noisy, cause draughts and under-ventilate bedrooms.
- A large imbalance between supply and extract can draw air through gaps or the chimney.
- The results should be recorded in a commissioning report – worth keeping for future maintenance.
We treat balancing as a mandatory part of commissioning. If your existing system is noisy or uneven, our service team can check and adjust it.
